The High Street
The postcard.
The steep sweep down to the river — best early before the coaches arrive.
Places · Burford
Burford's High Street is one of those views that ends up on biscuit tins: a long slope of honey-coloured houses running down the hill to a medieval bridge over the Windrush. At the top, the A40; at the bottom, a proper Cotswold village.
It is small enough to do on foot, full of places to eat, and a short drive from the Cotswold Wildlife Park, which is reason enough to come with children. Park at the bottom and earn your lunch on the walk up.
